Jesus is full of surprises when he begins his great Sermon to his disciples. Turns out that those who would inherit the earth and possess the kingdom of heaven are the most spiritually poor and mournful people of all. To be honest, he is reaching out to each one of us in the raw space of our terrible sinfulness and handing over the splendors of his gifts of grace, forgiveness and eternal life.
