Living Family Podcast Devotions

The Word of God declares us forgiven in Jesus and so makes one new people, one united family, out of a whole world of different nations and races. These devotions are just one sampling of how a family comes together to grow as one in Christ in time and for eternity.

So, we give you this podcast, from our family to yours, that together we may be a “living family” in the Lord and his promise of eternal life.

Wise Worker | Genesis 41:15-40 Devotion

Wise Worker | Genesis 41:15-40 Devotion

Joseph could hardly believe it was happening – standing before Pharaoh – but even better sharing the interpretation only God could give. Joseph was not wise and understanding on his own, but recognized the humble blessing of being used by God to accomplish divine purposes. The Lord give us the same conviction and make us wise for salvation with opportunities to spread it everywhere!

Pharaoh’s Frenzy | Genesis 41:1-14 Devotion

Now it’s Pharaoh’s turn to be the double dreamer, and it’s got him all riled up. Something ugly, something good, something seven, something food….what does it all mean? Only room for one interpreter in this town – send for Joseph (after he cleans himself up first)!

Song: I Just Wanna Be a Sheep

Genesis 41:1-14 | 5-28-2020
Forgotten Helper | Genesis 40:9-23 Devotion

Forgotten Helper | Genesis 40:9-23 Devotion

Joseph served and served well. He helped others and was glad. Even though his kindness was forgotten, his LORD knew and helped him survive his loneliness by faith.

Jailhouse Rocked | Genesis 40:1-8 Devotion

After two new inmates arrive straight from Pharaoh’s kitchen, Joseph is given responsibility over them and gets to know them. Then, one night, both cupbearer and baker have dreams they need interpreted. Joseph has been brought to this moment to help them with God’s interpretation, just like the Word of God helps us interpret our entire lives.

Unjust Jailtime | Genesis 39:7-23 Devotion

Unjust Jailtime | Genesis 39:7-23 Devotion

Even when doing the right thing, Joseph was not in control of the outcome. But God was and God was with him, working his blessings from imprisonment. We learn that nothing is truly chaotic in the Lord. We can trust his Word even when all our circumstances seem to contradict God’s promises.

Genesis 39:7-23 | 5-16-2020
Blessed Blessing | Genesis 39:1-6 Devotion

Blessed Blessing | Genesis 39:1-6 Devotion

Into a pit, out of a pit; sold to the merchants, sold as a slave – so far, Joseph has many reasons to be out of sorts. Instead, we see blessings from the Lord at work in his life outwardly and inwardly as he serves the house of Potiphar. Hummingbirds join our outdoor podcast today as a bonus!

Song: Father, I Adore You (as a round)

Genesis 39:1-6 | 5-14-2020
Sold for Shekels | Genesis 37:25-36

Sold for Shekels | Genesis 37:25-36

After reminiscing the fun had in podcasting, the kids get shaken pretty fast as the Tiny One details her theoretical idea of what to do if her siblings don’t play nice (!). But they are the only ones shaken, as Joseph must’ve been also, and both Jacob and Reuben tear their clothes in this section!

Music: Meal Prayer – “Oh, the Lord Is Good To Me” (aka, the Johnny Appleseed prayer)

Thrown Away | Genesis 37:12-24 Devotion

Thrown Away | Genesis 37:12-24 Devotion

From their hearts to their hands, the jealousy among Joseph’s brothers moved much like ours often does. They find an opportunity to harm Joseph, the Dreamer. How to deal with conflict inside? Peer pressure? We don’t masterfully cover all these things in our devotion time here, but worth the conversation!

Music: Memory song for the Third Commandment
